City Ministry

The City Ministry is a vital arm of Home and Urban Missions (HUM) that focuses on reaching the urban poor and marginalised—individuals whom political and social systems have excluded from enjoying the full benefits of society. This ministry also engages people involved in deviant or socially unacceptable behaviours, whether legal or illegal, but approaches these situations through a biblical and redemptive lens.

Target Group:

Primarily focusing on individuals above 18 years of age, the City Ministry reaches:

  • Commercial sex workers
  • Persons with substance use disorders
  • Street peddlers and dwellers
  • Slum and ghetto residents
  • Refugees
  • Marginalised and detribalised groups (e.g., the Aborigines in Australia and indigenous or isolated groups in Canada)

Core Mandate:

  1. Evangelism – Sharing the unadulterated gospel of Christ with compassion.
  2. Discipleship – Providing consistent teaching and mentoring for spiritual growth.
  3. Rehabilitation – Addressing behavioural, emotional, and spiritual challenges.
  4. Skill Development – Equipping individuals with vocational and life skills.
  5. Social Integration – Preparing and training individuals for responsible adulthoodandmeaningful contribution to society.

Cells and local assembliesare established ascentres of reformation, where individuals can grow in Christ, receive support, and transform into agents of hope and change within their communities.
